Efficacy of various HA administration types
Oral Administration (standard ingestion)
Studies have shown that oral HA supplements can lead to a significant increase in serum (blood) HA levels in horses over time, particularly with daily dosing. The *molecular weight of the HA may influence how and where it is absorbed in the digestive tract.

Intravenous (IV) Administration
IV injected HA has a very short terminal half/life in the plasma of horses, typically around 43 minutes.
Intra-articular Administration
Injections directly into the joint are effective for targeted relief and increased synovial fluid viscosity, but HA concentration returns to baseline levels relatively quickly.
